How to Install to SD Card from Play Store. With limited storage on some Android phones, running out of space for apps can be a concern. If your device includes a microSD card slot, you can utilize it to expand storage capacity and accommodate more apps. However, it’s worth noting that SD card support is now more limited compared to previous times.
How to Install App to SD from Google Play Store?
By default, Android apps are installed on your device’s internal storage. However, if you have a microSD card, you can move certain installed apps to the card. It’s important to note that this feature isn’t supported by all apps.
To move apps to an SD Card from the Play Store, you will have to follow the steps given below.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Notification Panel. Tap the gear icon to open “Settings“.
- Select “Apps” from the Settings menu.
- If necessary, tap “See All [Number] Apps” to view the complete list of installed apps.
- Choose the app you want to move to the SD card.
- On the App Info page, select “Storage” or “Storage & Cache”.
- If the app supports moving to the SD card, you’ll find a “Change” button. Tap it.
- A menu will appear, offering the option to change the storage location to “SD card”.
- Tap “Move” on the following screen to start the exporting process.
- You’ll see a progress bar indicating the transfer status. Once completed, you’ll return to the “Settings” app.
Is it Possible to Install Apps Direct to the SD Card?
Before around 2022, Samsung and LG allowed users to format microSD cards as internal storage, enabling the default installation of apps and games onto them. However, this feature is absent on newer devices.
While technically possible through rooting, it’s become less worthwhile due to Android’s improvement and the increasing complexity of the rooting process. Additionally, fewer Android phones now come with SD card slots, and app support for moving to external storage is limited. If you do have an SD card slot, it’s advisable to utilize it.
